Library Programs & Events

The Toronto Public Library's programs include storytelling, and author or illustrator visits throughout the year. Please go to Programs and Events, choose your branch and look for Children's Programs for specific dates, times and locations. Some programs require registration.

Ready for Reading Storytimes

Storytimes in library branches throughout the city encourage a lifelong love of reading, build reading readiness in children and show parents and caregivers how to help their child get ready for reading.

Parents and caregivers attend with their children. All programs are free.

Baby Time (Birth-18 months) - Bouncing and tickling rhymes, songs and stories .

Toddler Time (19 months-3 years) - Stories, songs and rhymes.

Story Time (3-5 years) - Favourite stories, fingerplays, songs and verse .

Family Time(5 and under) - Stories, songs, rhymes and crafts.

Dial-a-Story

Children can hear many entertaining stories by phone  at 416-395-5400. We have stories in Cantonese, English, French, Italian, Gujurati, Urdu, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Russian,Tagalog, Korean and Tamil. Available 24 hours a day.

Leading to Reading (Grades 1-6)

Children requiring help with reading and study skills receive individualized help for one hour per week. Application forms are available at participating library branches. Space is limited. Find out more information on Leading to Reading .

TD Summer Reading Club (Pre-school - age 14)

The TD Summer Reading Club is a free program that takes place every summer in July and August. Each year there is a different reading adventure that makes reading fun. Every school age child who joins the Club receives a magazine, a passport and stickers.Preschoolers receive a re-reading activities book,passport and stickers. Children are encouraged to visit the library regularly to read and borrow books. There are also programs and activities, including author and illustrator visits, as part of the TD Summer Reading Club. Children can explore the Club's website for more reading-related fun. To join, children need to drop by their local library during the summer.

Afterschool Programs (Age 7-12)

Many libraries offer weekly or monthly afterschool sessions that focus on books and fun.

Class Visits

Teachers, day care and recreation leaders are invited to bring their groups to visit the library. Please book in advance.
