When I was a kid, my mother would let us play outside until the sun set.

During the summer, there is sunlight until after 8 pm and even 9 pm on the longest day of the year in June. But during the winter, it's night time by 6 pm.

By doing a little math, it's easy to see why summer is awesome (besides getting a break from school). There are at least two hours of extra sunlight a day! This also means two extra hours to hang outside with friends. Now, over a week this adds up to 14 extra sunlit hours!

Here is a list of some things that you can do in 14 hours:

- read a book
- play 3 extra games of soccer
- play 4 extra games of basketball
- perform 12 extra belly flops at the pool
- 5 extra bike rides around the park
- eat 5 extra hot dogs
- eat 4 extra ice cream sundaes

Isn't it great? Though, it's easy to see why vampires might disagree.
