Moving in Part 4  -Kids Stop

August 2008

It's amazing how a lot of small things can make one amazing big thing.  This is certainly the case with our new KidsStop.  An area of the children’s department was set aside for interactive learn to read tools.  There are ten different "stations" that focus on the Ready for Reading steps.

By themselves each of the stations is not overly impressive, they're nice but they don't create an overwhelming "WOW" feeling.  Put them all together and it's really impressive.  Everyone who sees it is totally impressed.  I'm not sure who is more impressed with the space; parents, teens, middle-schoolers or the pre-schoolers the space was designed for.  Not that it matters.

When we first learned about the space we were sceptical about the concept, but after watching the reactions I'm sold.  Families come to the library to visit the stations and return home with armloads of books.
