In 2008 Toronto Public Library ran a bookmark contest to celebrate Canadian Children's Book Week. One winner was chosen at each branch and bookmobile from each of the three age groups:

• up to 6 years
• 7 to 9 years
• 10 to 13 years

From the winning entries 16 bookmarks are chosen for publication. There are 4 Elizabeth Cleaver Winners and 12 Grand Award Winners.

At a special award celebration, winners  receive a book prize and 100 copies of their bookmark. The library distributes the winning bookmarks to the public during 2009.
